In the spirit of the great reclists I've read recently, here's some fics of one of my favorite tropes, vampire au. Feel free to rec more below!

This is weighted toward The Boyz, in part because excellent mv Drink It was enough to launch a thousand vampire-captained ships (I have a few in my drafts myself).

Ateez

beats my heart in your mouth by passingtunnel

E, 11.2k, Ateez, woosan

Summary: “Even when you love someone enough to want to keep them forever and they feel the same, at some point you can’t help but hate what makes you.” Wooyoung smiles at him, rueful. “It’s easy for me to say that now that you’re already changing, of course. I told you I’m greedy.”

“I wouldn’t hate you,” San says lowly. Do you need me to tell you I love you? I love you.

“That’s good of you to say.” Wooyoung thumbs at his mouth, holds San’s face in his hands. “Isn't it enough that I have your blood, and you have mine?”

This is also a "coldest girl in coldtown" au, but previous background knowledge isn't really required to jump into this one! Really gorgeous prose, and a take on vampire lore I've never read before. Passingtunnel is so good at keeping you just in the moment. (Heads up, make sure to read the tags.)

The Boyz

Corroborating Evidence by murkya

Summary: Lee Juyeon: long time admirer, first time vampire.

Ji Changmin: a personality not governed by bloodlust, as such, but it's a strong influence.

Choi Chanhee: aren't we all very lucky that someone here knows what they're doing.

A delight all the way down! A vampires-in-idolverse take I hadn't read before, and it uses vampires to comment on the industry a little in a fascinating way. Gorgeous prose and a Juyeon voice that's right on the nose!


Tonight Belongs To... by Auber_Gine_Dreams

E, 6k, The Boyz, sunju + nyujukyu

Summary: “We’re going to your place, right?” Sunwoo pants. He presses Juyeon tighter against the wall, grinding against him.
Juyeon nods and lets out a pleased little hum. He kisses him one more time, licks into Sunwoo’s mouth like it’s the only thing he has ever wanted to do.

Later, Sunwoo will wonder if there was something obvious that he missed. Some warning signs about what was really waiting for him in Juyeon’s apartment.

Though it doesn’t really matter in the end.

Incredibly rich background painted in with strokes that feel really swift; vampires but with an edge that makes you feel the weight of immortality. A fun spin on the "one night stand with a vampire" trope, and also it's about the tenderness...


Bloodlust for Life by popliar (littlerhymes)

T, 3.5k, The Boyz, milcob

Summary: Jaehyun meets Jacob, and suddenly undead life seems worth living again.

This is a meet cute and a comedy and also the sweetest take on ennui I've seen in a while. Eric deals with so much but it's the adoration Jaehyun has that really envelops the whole piece!!!


Drinking Games by SomebodyOwens

E, 16.1k, The Boyz, milbbangju

Summary: Jaehyun brings it up again when Juyeon is at his weakest. "You need to practice biting a real live human."

Juyeon hadn't seen anyone else in the apartment when he first arrived, but maybe there's a friend of Younghoon and Jaehyun's hanging out in their bedroom? Or something? He says as much to Jaehyun who, as usual, laughs.

"No, silly. You can practice on Younghoon!"

Juyeon you are so Juyeon... I kept cackling throughout this. The overall tone of it is really fun, and it's also an interesting take on vampires! Tender and also cute.


Awakening by cest_what

T, 2.5k, The Boyz, kyuhoon

Summary: Changmin is a newborn vampire. Younghoon is the boy who wandered in from the rain.

Really atmospheric take on a vampire's first awakening. I just like this one a lot, it's a really tight 2k that tells about a larger story in the wings.


seep into me again by Quettaser

E, 10.8k, The Boyz, younghoon/everyone + jubbang + nyukyubbang

Summary: Younghoon had grown up his whole life hearing things about the boardwalk at Anmyeon. About what could happen to you after dark if you pissed off the wrong people, if you won a game too quickly or made yourself a nuisance. It was dangerous, only degenerates went there, it was haunted. He wasn’t ever allowed to go, not as long as he lived in his mother’s house, she had made that much clear.

Drink It thank you for all you've done for the tbz vampire aus...! This interpretation of the MV pulls together some other influences in a way I didn't expect, and has a really fun spooky vibe.

Summary: 5 times Younghoon asks the questions and 1 time he answers. (A Drink It MV AU)

I love a good Drink It AU and this plays perfectly with a kind of epistolary-framing through Younghoon's questions. Really fun!


“Delicious dinners without the dishes” by SQ (proteinscollide)

G, 2.8k, The Boyz, sunnyu

Summary: Whatever you’re craving, we'll bring it to you. Maybe the advertising is a little over the top, but somehow Chanhee does get what he was looking for, even if delivery boy Sunwoo isn't great at his job at first.

Chanhee is so perfect here!!! What more can I say. Suggested tags: #when your delivery boy needs to take care of himself so you can eat him, #vampires, #chanhee is Not Endeared not even a little


Split by eternal_octopus

Summary: Chanhee's pace is languid, unhurried, lavishing Younghoon with every ounce of his dedicated focus. He's waited patiently for this moment, his insistence that each of the others take their turn before him uncharacteristically gracious enough to pique Changmin's curiosity.

Coming here at Chanhee's request tonight and finding Younghoon recumbent in his bed is more than enough to answer Changmin's unposed questions.

This one incorporates soulbonds and vampires in a way I'd never seen before! Poly negotiations but done over biting Younghoon? Sexy and fun!

Seventeen

desire three shades distant by lacquer

M, 22.5k, Seventeen, seokgyuhao

Summary: Two days before Minghao, Seoul's vampiric ambassador, is to be married, someone tries to assassinate her fiance. Seokmin is lucky to be alive.

Mingyu, head of Minghao’s security team, is determined to foil the next attempt. All she has to do is stick by the betrothed until the wedding is over, all the while ignoring her complicated feelings for the brides to be. Simple, right?

"I just want to feel safe,” Seokmin had said into the warmth of Minghao’s mouth before they parted. And Minghao had given her a look, had given her another kiss, had given her Mingyu. Seokmin’s not quite sure how to feel about the last one.

Vampire but what if it was really about bodyguards? This is a self rec (also contains an arranged marriage as a plot point for anyone who wants to avoid that). Nonlinear poly negotiations and a little (lot) bit of pining.


Where Nothing Is Red by preciouslittletime

Summary: Vampires were real, but they were rare. As real as an earthquake, as few and far between.

This one!!! Really so fun and about art and being monstrous and immortality and tenderness. I think about one of the scenes in here constantly.

A cute little bite! Vampire Vernon is a delight.

Stray Kids

Summary: Chan does seem surprisingly hale for someone who was passed out cold from blood loss less than a day ago. The patches of blue scales that dot his arms, face, and neck have returned to their usual iridescent glow, no longer lifeless and dull as they’d been the night before, and there’s a healthy level of color to his cheeks. If Felix didn’t know how bad he’d looked last night, he might never have guessed.

But Felix does know. He’d been the cause.

Felix is turned into a vampire against his will. Chan—his dragon-shifter roommate—offers to feed him while they find a way to turn Felix back.

Come for the vampires stay for Chan the dragon shifter!!! This is a broadly magical au, and it handles its final confrontation with a lot of grace. Stay also for the ridiculous situation Chanlix get themselves into.


at night (as if it's daytime) by merryofsoul

T, 8.4k, Stray Kids, minbin

Summary: Minho goes to town and comes back with a stray.

Very cute kind of historical au! The vampire!skz hang out in a house outside of town and Chan enforces Good Vampire Rules. It's very light all the way through and Changbin is worth everything in the world.
