Okay so ORV is something I think about ALL the time now, and here is the playlist I made about Kim Dokja (but also the whole story) that I rotate when I am particularly in the sauce.
ORV, to me, is fundamentally about story, and love, and forgiveness, and what you get from a narrative, and why people write. Loved it so much. Also, there are so many spoilers in this playlist, so proceed through this cut at your own risk.
1. The Killing Kind by Marianas Trench
THIS IS MY ORV THESIS... This is soooo applicable to all of the main characters. Kim Dokja, who loves things that die and kills things for love, Yoo Joonghyuk who sees his loves die over and over, Han Sooyoung who writes her way into death as much as hope. What's worse? To die over and over again, to watch, or to orchestrate that end? This is also Kim Dokja @ his life: everything he loves he has lost, or bled for, until the salvation he offers is a blade to the palm.
2. Come Home by We Are the Guests
What is this song if not the ending and all the adventures in between. Come home! they ask, but everyone is moving so quickly away.
3. Death Is in the Air by SAKIMA
Vibes for when the novel starts! This is also a yoohankim joint character song "keep dancing on a pipe dream / keep laughing when I want to scream" + "for every debt that I'm paying I'm no further along / what if I just give up the ghost and become one myself?"
4. Godlight by Noah Kahan
THIS IS THE KDJ THESIS IN A NUTSHELL... PICK A LINE THEY'RE ALL KDJ. "there's no way out from an angry crowd / without stepping on some toes" + "to know me is to hate me" + "honey, now you've got a look that I don't recognize"
5. Something to Believe by Weyes Blood
This song! About belief in what you can't see! In many ways orv is a novel about belief, and the faith in others you carry within you. Orv a love letter!!! Something to believe in could be a person, a story, whatever Dokja holds tight. Whatever you need to survive.
6. Oil and Water by Rationale
The Kim Dokja/Yoo Joonghyuk song...
7. Die Young by Sylvan Esso
About surviving and not dying because you're waiting for someone. What is more precanon dokja than living for the story written just for him?
8. A Lot's Gonna Change by Weyes Blood
THE ENDING LYRICS... "let me change my words / show me where it hurts" apply this to yoohankim and cry with me.
9. An Act Of Kindness by Bastille
ALSO kimcom @ Kim Dokja, something something debts, something something salvation. "kindness / is what you showed to me / it holds me till I ache / overflow and start to break" + "now it follows me every day // I feel guilty, I feel guilty"
10. How It's Going to Be by Gerard Way
KIM DOKJA! The opening you can apply to fate/the constellations blaming him, becoming the enemy of the story etc, and the second half of the story, well: "I never really wanted more / [than] someone who hates to see me go" + "and if I die here now // can you tell me how it's going to be?"
11. This Is How I Disappear by My Chemical Romance
This is the Kim Dokja @ Kimcom song! The themes of forgiveness and blame! The self recrimination! "and without you is how I disappear"
12. Love From The Other Side by Fall Out Boy
This also captures the beginning of the story's vibes a lot. "what would you trade the pain for? / I'm not sure" + "love from the other side of the apocalypse"

Date: 2023-04-17 05:03 am (UTC)also!!! I am spreading a blanket and patting a bench in the comment section of a kim dokja playlist! I am making this a place for talking about it! if you have any thoughts I would love to hear them~ though also I do understand the urge to make a post and have all your thoughts in a row. I feel like to really articulate my own orv thoughts I'd need to do a reread and a crash course in lit theory haha, what a novel <3
