2024 book hubris goals

My goal for 2024 is to read 100 books! I've decided not to plan out all of them, but I have some I want to hit below. I thought 9 was a nice number of books I absolutely want to get through next year. 100 is a... lot! Hence the book hubris.
Unrelated to this list, is anyone interested in forming a bookclub? Maybe making a dw community about it or something? Or even just a dw community to talk about books occasionally would be fun!
Non-fiction
Minor Feelings by Cathy Park Hong
I have half an essay on Rina Sawayama's latest album in my head and if I ever want to write it I have to read this book. I also feel like my mom would like this book but I want to read it first to make sure.
Black and Buddhist (anthology)
I'm borrowing this book from a friend and I really have to return it soon lmao. (She had not asked for it back, I just feel bad haha.)
Facing the Mountain by Daniel James Brown
This is a rec from my mom, a sort of "you should know our history" thing that I do agree with, so I'm going to make sure I read this.
Fiction
Piranesi by Susana Clarke
Multiple people whose opinions I trust have told me I'll love this novel and I even own a copy so all that's left is for me to read it.
A Tale for the Time Being by Ruth Ozeki
I started reading this for school and got maybe a third in? I really liked it, I just stalled out. So this will be nice to finish.
Bel Canto by Ann Patchett
Pop recommended this to me in like 2021? And I've wanted to get to it for a while, so I'm finally just sticking it on this list.
Poetry/Graphic Novels
Homie by Danez Smith
This was assigned in college and I never read it but I love other stuff by Danez Smith so I'm going to get into it!
The Hurting Kind by Ada Limón
Who doesn't need to read a little more Ada Limón… Not me. I picked this up from a bookstore in NYC and haven't started it, but I feel like I'll really enjoy it, so I'm assigning it to read.
On a Sunbeam by Tillie Walden
I picked this up on a rec and haven't gotten into it but I loveee a story about space so I'd like to not let this one fall by the wayside!

Date: 2024-01-16 10:11 pm (UTC)I put together a comm for a book club here; I'm definitely interested in something asynchronous so that we're not dependent on timezones!

Date: 2024-01-02 01:25 am (UTC)100 books is a lot, and I wish you luck! I always set my goals relatively arbitrarily. This year I set mine to 48, but my actual goal is to stay on top of my work and school reading without making myself sick or panicking, and I'm trying to develop systems for that. I definitely struggle with the overload of things I want to do!
I've heard great things about Bel Canto, and her latest book, Tom Lake, has been popular this year as well. I am saving that one for next summer.
