Almost combined February and March since this is so late but I figured I'd let it stand lol.
Watched more Michelle Yeoh movies this month!
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon (2000) ★★★★☆
This was cool! I understand now why it's so famous. I've definitely liked other movies more but this was fun.
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny (2016) ★★★☆☆
Not as bad as reviews would make you think it is? It's solidly mid as a movie.
BTS: Yet To Come (2023) ★★★★☆
I like concerts and this was basically a concert VOD.
Memoirs of a Geisha (2005) ★☆☆☆☆
Started watching this at 1.5x and it was still not fast enough. Did not enjoy this one.
Far North (2007) ★★★★☆
A horror movie about isolation. I was certainly frightened!!!! I think it absolutely Does What It Meant To Do. (cw for rape)
Babylon A. D. (2008) ★☆☆☆☆
Bad! So bad! What was that! Vin Diesel was there. Every time you think you understand the plot it hits you over the head with another brick!!!
Holy Weapon (1993) ★☆☆☆☆
Accidentally fell asleep during this one. Did not make sense anyway. Really flings you into the deep end and the comedy just didn't land at all for me.
The World Keeps Ending, and the World Goes On by Franny Choi
High on the Hog
Netflix show on the roots of African American cooking and its impact on the overall cuisine of America. This was so good and I really enjoyed the whole thing. It's super solidly shot and researched and the interviews they weave in feel so grounded. Always about hope and resilience when possible.
Physical 100
Watched a few episodes of this, it's like, fine? I wasn't very interested in the wrestling challenges so I dropped it after that.
The Makanai: Cooking for the Maiko House
This is sooooo cute. I'm saving the episodes for when I'm having bad days, they're just very sweet.
Boys Planet
I love an idol survival show… I've been following this since it started broadcasting in feb. More thoughts with March's wrapup I think.
Worlds Beyond Number
New podcast with Lou Wilson, Aabria Iyengar, Erika Ishii, and Brennan Lee Mulligan! It's a tabletop podcast, audio only. Soooo excited for this combination I LOVE Aabria's sense for narrative and Lou's way of crafting character pulls my heart out. They have a couple eps out rn (as of March when I'm writing this). All of feb I spent going !!!!!!! though.
CALF CLEAVING IN THE BENTHIC BLACK BY ISABEL J. KIM
Very fun!!!
ZETA-EPSILON BY ISABEL J. KIM
You know when I said last month's story I linked from Kim wasn't my favorite? This is way closer to my favorite tone from her.
Unknown Number by Azure
This was good! I liked it. It doesn't flesh itself out much but it doesn't need to.
Tangles by Seanan McGuire
This was messy... I know McGuire can write better than this. I'm honestly not sure why this was a Hugo nom other than name recognition. It doesn't have any punch. (It relies a lot on its name recognition of Magic the Gathering lore which is fine if it's just a story submitted for Magic fans, but it doesn't make sense why it was nominated for a Hugo because it does not work that well outside of that context.)
The Functino of Regret and Another Pandemic Winter by Ace
I was browsing this person's astrology blog, and I liked these blog posts!
Dimension 20: A Crown of Candy
THIS SPLIT ME OPEN LIKE A PLUM. The second d20 season I've watched all the way through, and my first one with the original cast. I cried!!! Really fun royalty plots.
Adventuring Academy
Loved the eps of this with Matthew Mercer, Lou Wilson, and Aabria Iyengar. Taking notes for my own campaign…
Not sure what I was reading in feb given that it's march haha
black love by Evie Shockley
Brown Estate, 2018 Tempranillo by Cortney Lamar Charleston
Kink by Imani Davis
Continental Breakfast by Nkosi Nkululeko
Canopy by Arlene Keizer
Love Poem in the Black Field by Ariana Benson
Aubade: Nocturne by Willie Lee Kinard III
When I See the Stars in the Night Sky by Joy Priest
To burn a little longer—
Whitney, you know no one is coming—you must save yourself.
Wetland by francine j. harris
An Act of Love by Tommye Blount
The Lose Your Mother Suite VI. “across the surface of my studied speech” by Remica Bingham-Risher
Self-Care by Faylita Hicks
I begged the year for intimacy. Dashed down into my sheets
with nothing but the fan on. I begged my knees for oil, to bend
easy guillotine around some neck, maybe cut off the lamp in my belly,
knock out the dust from my toes, sweep out the tricks webbing up my corneas.
I said give me back my wata and the sleep number started seizing
—put a hump in the hour—but no more.
Boihood by Jari Bradley
Neoteric Kama No Sutra by Frank X Walker
October Sonnet by Adrian Matejka
Sonnet to a Negro in Harlem by Helene Johnson
No Room to Form by John S. Blake
SCROBBLES: 1,398
SCROBBLES PER DAY: 49
New Boyz music did not disappoint!!! I also discovered Tamino released an album last year that I missed, which was a delight to discover!!! I love his music that was a great treat. Listened to a fair amount of jpop. The BSS track was also a joy.

Books
The World Keeps Ending, and the World Goes On by Franny Choi
- why I read it: I had my eye on this release!
- thoughts: WOW… Franny Choi hits it out of the park again. If you want to read a book of poetry this year I'd say try this one out.
